About Emma Järvenpää
Born in Mölndal, Sweden 1983, Emma Järvenpää is a self-taught artist.
Growing up in Sweden where winters are long and color is used meagerly created a hunger for color and brightness.
She started working with collage/mixed media in 2014 when she was able to learn from collage artist Lance Letscher in Austin, Texas.
She sees the beauty in old and used up things and collects old books, magazines, records and catalogues.
Giving new life to things that would have been thrown away drives her and she creates colorful pieces of art that you can find more and more detail in the longer you look at it.
“The wonderful thing about collage is that each little piece of paper is a small part of history that instead of getting thrown away will be forever capsuled into a piece of art.
I wonder sometimes, if my art will be here in hundreds of years; and what about it will be meaningful at that time, for the person looking at it then.”
